The organisation was said to have announced the development at the closing ceremony and Gala Night of the Africa Fashion Reception, held at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa capital.
The statement added that the Goodluck Jonathan World Fashion University, GJWFU, will be equipped with a research centre, amphitheatre, faculty of social sciences, conference centre, textile plant building and sports complex, among other facilities.
President Jonathan, who was represented at the event by the Minister of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, Chief Edem Duke, expressed gratitude for the honour.
He noted that the African continent has produced notable designers in the creative industry and must be given its pride of place in the world.
Mr. Jonathan further noted that the industry contributes 40 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) across the continent.
