First Tweet From Atop Everest Courtesy Of The Galaxy S II

Kenton Cool recently became the first person ever to tweet from the top of Mount Everest. The British mountaineer sent both a tweet and made a 3G call via the relatively recent 3G enabled phone mast, which had been installed at Everest base camp in October 2010.

Nepali mobile carrier Ncell set up the mast, which Cool assumed provided "weak" 3G signal, but else what can you expect when you're over 29,000 feet up? The act of climbing Everest is, in itself an impressive feat, one that Cool is no stranger to. Kenton has climbed Everest 8 times previously but said, "I’ve climbed Everest before but have never been able to share the exhilaration and excitement I experience when I reach the top with those back home" speaking of his experiences this time around.

The whole afhonest was actually a rare opportunity for an impressive marketing ploy from Samsung UK. The call Kenton made, and the tweet he posted were done so on a Samsung Galaxy S II and were designed to promote just how remarkable the handset is. Kenton even spent a small time at base camp unboxing his S II before the final push. Take a look:
