Robber killed, three arrested after snatching N3m

A suspected armed robber, identified as Jeff, has been killed while three members of his gang were arrested by the police after robbing occupants of a commercial tricycle of N3m in Bayelsa State.

The incident occurred on Saturday along Oxbow Lake, Swali area of Yenagoa, the state capital.

The names of the arrested suspects have been given as Aya Victor (23), Ebi Godwin (20) and Ejike Igwe.

It was learnt the suspects, who drove a Volkswagen car with number plate AL 305 AGU, were intercepted after robbing Mr. and Mrs. Eric Oyibodokoye.

They were said to have blocked a tricycle operator conveying the couple along Oxbow Lake.

The suspects reportedly shot the operator on the head and made away with the sum of N3m belonging to the occupants.

But nemesis, however, caught up with them when members of the public gave them a chase, caught them and alerted the police.

The Bayelsa State Police Command, while confirming the incident, said the suspects were arrested by members of the public who informed the police.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, Mr. Asinim Butswat, said on Sunday that before the arrival of policemen, the suspects had been battered.

He said the tricycle operator, who was shot on the head and the suspects were taken to Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, for medical attention.

Butswat confirmed that one of the suspects, Jeff, later died and that his corpse had been deposited at the morgue of the same hospital for autopsy.

He said, “The fourth suspect, Ejike Igwe, was trailed and arrested at Swali community in possession of a locally-made pistol and N144,500, part of the stolen money.”
