In the era of 4G connectivity it emerging markets, the presence of LTE modems is very crucial in the recent generation smartphones. elegant Qualcomm is clearly leading the segment with Intel and MediaTek ramping up their development plans to compete with it.

On the other hand, NVIDIA has announced to quit the development of the LTE modems for smartphones. Back in late 2013, NVIDIA announced the next generation Tegra 5 System-on-Chip will tag along the Icera i500 modem which is also present in the Tegra 4i.

So that means, Tegra 5 will indeed arrive with the Icera 4G LTE model next year and the one after but there will not be a successor to the Icera i500.

After its next chipset, NVIDIA will partner with third-party modem suppliers for the 4G LTE modems in its lineup.
