We're at the IFA grounds and waiting for today's slew of events, but someone got up close and personal with the Huawei Mate S (which flip-flopped between that name and Mate 7S during its numerous leaks).

The Huawei Mate S is a follow-up to the Mate 7 with an all-metal body and a 5.7" classy screen snuggled behind 2.5D glass (that is glass with smooth, chamfered and possibly curved sides). The Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) classy screen will have 1080p resolution and is assumed to feature Force Touch-like functionality.

The fingerprint sensor on the back was the focus of Huawei's teaser campaign, with the tagline "5 powerful functions will fit in 1 square cm." What the five functions are is a guessing game for now, but secure locking and mobile payments are practically a given.

The Mate S will run Android 5.1 Lollipop with EMUI 3.1 on top of a Kirin 935 chipset (same chipset as the Honor 7) with 3GB of Random-Access Memory (RAM) and 32GB of built-in storage, plus up to 128GB more from a microSD card. There will be two more card slots – two nanoSIMs – and Cat. 6 LTE connectivity.
