Just a week after there were reports that the Yahoo board is considering selling the company's Internet business, Verizon has assumed that they would consider acquiring the unit if the deal makes sense. The comment was made by Verizon's CFO Fran Shammo while speaking at an investor conference in New York today.

"It’s just like with AOL, I mean we see at everything across this spectrum," he said. "And if we see there is a strategic fit and it makes sense for our shareholders and we can return value, I mean we’ll see at it, but at this point it’s way too premature to talk about that one." For those who aren't already aware, Verizon announced a $4.4 billion acquisition of AOL back in May this year. The deal completed in June.

Reports also had it that aside from selling off the company's core business, Yahoo's board could even decide to spin off the company's investment in Alibaba, which is currently worth over $30 billion.
