Fujitsu Splits Its Computer And Mobile Divisions

Fujitsu has announced that it will be splitting its Personal Computer (PC) business and mobile business into two separate entities. The Personal Computer (PC) business shall henceforth be known as Fujitsu Client Computing Limited and the mobile business as Fujitsu Connected Technologies Limited.

The reason for the split, as Fujitsu puts it, is because, "With the ongoing commoditization of ubiquitous products, mainly of PCs and smartphones, it has become increasingly difficult to achieve differentiation, and competition with emerging global vendors has intensified."

"The Company has resolved to implement Each Company Split in order to clarify management accountability, to enable swift management decisions, and to pursue comprehensive efficiency by creating independent companies for the Personal Computer (PC) business and the mobile phones business, respectively, and to establish an integrated system covering all aspects of research, development, design, manufacturing, sales, planning, and after-sales services."

Basically, the Personal Computer (PC) division is not doing so well and it would be better to spin it off into its own thing to create it easier to acquire rid off in the future. With the Personal Computer (PC) division on the decline in general, this is hardly a surprise.
