Uber has revealed that it will launch a full-fledged food delivery service in the US in the coming weeks. The revelation was made by the ride-sharing company in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal.

The service will allow people to order food from local restaurants using a dedicated standalone app dubbed UberEats, and have it delivered by an Uber driver. Users will, however, have to pay a delivery fee of about $5 per order.

Already available in Toronto, Canada, UberEats will only be available in select US cities initially, including Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Austin, Washington DC, San Francisco, Atlanta, Houston, Seattle and Dallas.

It's worth mentioning that Uber already offers a lunchtime service - which promises deliveries under 10 minutes - by the same name in these cities. That service will be renamed to Instant Delivery.
