Google’s Nexus Smartphone Successors Might Be Called Pixel And Pixel XL

Just a couple of days ago, a rumor arose that the company was no longer going to utilize the “Nexus” name to the upcoming Marlin and Sailfish smartphones that are to be built by HTC.

Android Police reports that two independent sources almost confirm that the two aforementioned smartphones will not be named after the previous Nexus models before them. Rather they will be named with Google’s Pixel Brand. The Sailfish will carry the name Pixel and the 5-and-a-half-inch Marlin device will be called Pixel XL.

Just to speculate, the newest Android version is already out way before the successors to last year’s Nexus 6P and 5X smartphones. Could it be that Google is revamping its strategy when it comes to its self-branded smartphones? Or could it just be that Google is giving OEMs a head start to put out Android updates sooner?

What do you think of Google’s (alleged) decision to name these recent smartphones “Pixel”?
