A Federal High Court in Abuja, on Tuesday, ordered three bankers of Edo and Enugu states to immediately pay N151.9m to the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria from the accounts of the two states.

Justice Adeniyi Ademola granted the “order of garnishee absolute” sought by JUSUN for the enforcement of the January 13, 2014 judgment of the court which affirmed the financial autonomy granted the judiciary in the constitution.

JUSUN was the plaintiff and hence the judgment creditor in the suit which it filed to challenge the piecemeal funding of the judiciary by the state governments of the federation. The entire 36 state governments of the federation were defendants in the suit.

The union had initiated similar garnishee proceedings against Plateau State for the enforcement of the January 13, 2014 judgment.
