If you own an Android handset and live in UK, then your Google Maps app has been extended with the free navigation services. The only thing you must do is restart your smartphone.

Last night all the Androids across the United Kingdom and Ireland have been granted with the Google Maps Navigation 4.1.1 Beta blessing. If your device has received successfully the quiet update, then you are now able to utilize the navigation feature on your droid - given of course your devices is on Android 1.6 or higher (sorry, HTC Hero).

The Google Navigation was released more than half a year ago for the US Android owners. A European launch was reportedly delayed becautilize of some legal problems between Google and Tele Atlas. It seems those are no longer valid for UK, since they are the first Europeans to acquire the cool feature.

So far we have confirmation on the navigation working on HTC Desire, Google Nexus One and Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10. Still we expect this to work on all Androids out there.

We hope the rest of Europe won't have to wait much longer.
