How Jaywon escaped life of crime and drugs

It has been revealed that Kennis Music act,

Jaywon once lived on the streets and hustled at

the defunct Kuramo Beach in Lagos before the

label signed him on. According to Street Kid, a

former squatter at Kuramo, they were close pals

back in the day and till now Jaywon has not

forgotten his humble beginnings at the beach.

Street Kid disclosed: “It was here at Kuramo

Beach that Jaywon started his career as a singer

and rapper in 2004 after he came to Lagos from

Kogi State with only the clothes on his back. He

squatted with us here and we all knew him very

well. Back then I knew he was very talented and

was going to be big someday. “We had big


We talked about moving out of the beach and

making it big in music. In fact, it was at Kuramo

Beach that Kennis Music during a show

discovered and signed him on, changing his life

forever. May be if Kennis Music had not

discovered him, he could have ended up on the

other side.”

According to him, though the beach was a haven

for crime and drugs, Jaywon kept his head low

and remained focused. “He was a hard working

youth who knew his onions and tried to stay

away from the life of crime and drugs all around

him because that was what most of our peers

were doing back then at the beach,” Street Kid added.
